What Is Dabbing And How Do You Do it?

Dabbing has become one of the most popular ways to consume cannabis as of late. With its potency and fast-acting effects, it is easy to understand why this method has become so popular. Whether through the classic dab rig or from a handheld vaporizer, dabs are one of the quickest and easiest ways to enjoy the effects of cannabis and is a go-to choice for both medicinal and recreational users.

What Are Dabs?

Dabs are a method of consuming wax—also referred to as shatter, crumble, honeycomb, or budder—and are concentrated versions of cannabis oil that contain very high levels of THC. This concentrated substance is produced through a chemical process using butane oil to extract the natural oils and the key ingredient—THC—from cannabis.

Most waxes used for dabs consist of up to 80% THC levels, which is off-the-charts compared to the 10–15% that flower boasts. Dabs are made by pouring butane over marijuana plants. This process allows the THC to be extracted from the marijuana plant and attached to the butane, leaving a waxy, somewhat solid product that contains high amounts of THC.

How Does Dabbing Work?

While the most common method of consuming marijuana usually involves a joint or a bong, dabs require a unique setup. The most popular method of consuming dabs and getting the full experience involves a dab rig. Dab rigs consist of a typical bong but with an attachment known as a nail.

The nail is a surface (made of titanium, ceramic, or others) that can be heated to very high temperatures, after which the wax is “dabbed” onto the surface. This dissolves the concentrated wax into a vapor that is meant to be inhaled.

Due to this unique method, the effects are felt almost immediately and can last for up to three times as long as a regular bong hit. These hits can be very strong, even for seasoned cannabis users, so try to give yourself time between dabs to see if you really need more.

What To Watch Out For

Dabs are a very strong method of cannabis consumption, so some caution is required. Due to the very high potency, dabs are known to be too much to handle for some novice smokers. For these individuals, smaller rips are recommended in order to determine your tolerance levels.

Despite this, consuming wax is a very safe and effective method of consuming cannabis for smokers of all experience levels. The effects may be intense for newcomers, but the effects will eventually wear off every time.

Using this method, the smoke is converted to vapor, which is less harmful to the lungs and does not produce the same chemicals that come along with the simple combustion of burning papers and weed at lower temperatures. When used with water, the vapor can be exceptionally clean and great tasting! This makes experimenting with all of the different strains great fun.

In addition to this, dabbing does not produce smoke, which can be very beneficial to those who may be averse to smoke inhalation but still need the effects of cannabis as a medicine. It also is relatively odorless compared to smoking flower and provides a very unique taste that many greatly enjoy.

As long as you are prepared for the strong hit and don’t overdo it, there is a very small chance you will experience any side effects from consuming wax. Concentrates in forms such as wax, budder, crumble, and others are all great methods to try that give you strong effects with less effort.

Feeling the effects of cannabis faster is great for people who need fast relief from issues such as nausea, chronic pain, or any other health conditions. So, no matter which method you choose, be safe and enjoy!
