GMO Cannabis: The Euphoric StrainMarch 13, 2023
Cannabis cross-breeding continues to produce interesting and exciting new strains, with hybrids becoming more popular over time. While many people enjoy the middling hybrids that...
Cannabis use has increased nationwide as more legislation makes recreational enjoyment legal. With this explosion in popularity has come greater innovation in the strains that are being developed by crossing existing types of marijuana to create new varieties.
Among these, Mimosa (sometimes called Purple Mimosa) has risen to fame as an enjoyable choice that boosts a person’s mood and is bursting with subtle flavor. If you’ve never tried Mimosa before, here’s what you need to know about the entire experience, including how it usually makes people feel and where it came from.
In order to create new strains of cannabis, people cross existing varieties, sometimes from different families to create a hybrid and sometimes from the same family to focus on certain qualities. In the case of Mimosa, the hybridized plant came primarily from a Sativa strain called Clementine, with about 30% contribution from an Indica variety called Purple Punch.
Thanks to this cross, people can enjoy the heady, mood-boosting contributions of primary Sativa while still seeing some of the more medicinal elements from the Indica influence. Mimosa is fairly new, debuting to the public in 2017. However, in this time, it’s exploded, and it remains one of the most purchased strains on the market to date.
So what’s it like to sample Mimosa for yourself? Thanks to its parent plants, the flavor of Mimosa is appealing—it’s usually reported as a strong but not overpowering flavor that tastes like citrus and fruit.
That’s largely thanks to the Clementine parent, and you can expect both the flavor and the smell to be distinctly noticeable. Thus, it’s best to enjoy Mimosa only in locations where the smell won’t cause any trouble.
Most people enjoy smoking Mimosa, but it can also be incorporated into edibles or other types of consumable products. The flavor of the Mimosa strain is heavily dependent upon the soil that it’s grown in, so if you’ve tried it before and haven’t liked the flavor profile, it may be worth trying it again from a different supplier.
The main draw of the Mimosa strain is its ability to positively impact people’s mood. Most people who try Mimosa report that it makes them feel happy, uplifted and even inspired. This can be helpful if you’re trying to tackle a daunting task and need a bit of motivation.
That being said, Mimosa has 20% or more THC depending on how it’s grown, with a little bit of CBD as well. This means that you should start with a small dose, since it can hit hard—especially in those who aren’t experienced in larger THC strains just yet.
The effects of Mimosa can also change depending on the dosage. The mood-boosting benefits are primarily felt at lower doses as the terpenes Linalool and Limonene work to inspire you.
However, at increased doses, the Indica contribution starts to become more pronounced. You will likely feel highly relaxed and possibly even sleepy, which is why some people choose to use this strain before bed or to combat insomnia.
Beta-Caryophyllene is the terpene behind this relaxation, and it can also help with pain. People rely on Mimosa to help them conquer headaches, joint pain, stress, depression and muscle aches.
The smaller, more energetic dose can assist with conditions that cause fatigue, so it’s important to start small and gradually increase the dosage until you’re sure where the cutoff is for you between motivation and relaxation.
People also sometimes report that Mimosa can make them talkative. This can be a positive or a negative depending on what you’re intending to do with your day, so plan accordingly.
